Chinese wine-makers wanted to highlight a campaign against excessive packaging with a huge "nude run" in the city of Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province on Christmas Eve (now, that's a happy holidays for you). Sadly, local authorities failed to issue a permit for what would have surely been a memorable event. Apparently, they considered the event "immoral." But hey...at least they were going to screen the runners to ensure they were easy on the eyes!

In China, "Baijiu," a popular type of grain-based spirit, is often given as a New Year's gift, usually wrapped up in increasingly elaborate packaging. Since the Chinese government has been calling for a "sustainable society," the makers of Baijiu, Jixiang Ruyi Tobacco and Alcohol Company, came up with this marketing scheme to help out. And what better way to say "some gifts are better without the wrapping" than by having a thousand or so nude young people dash through the center of town?

The company advertised for auspicious men and women under the age of 30 with healthy bodies"and regular features to apply for the run; those accepted would receive 10,000 yuan for their efforts. However, the qualifications were so strict that out of over 1700 applicants in only a few days, only 30 or so had been accepted. Alas, now they'll never know the thrill of being recognized for their auspiciousness, and the wine world will be a bit poorer for not having started an interesting new trend.

Details.
