Next month on March 14th and 16th, Kelly Ford, National Director of Oriel Wines, will be in town to help C&B host a pair of free wine tastings (in Baton Rouge and New Orleans) and a knock-out wine dinner at Ralph's on the Park in New Orleans.

Oriel is a company that offers a line-up of wines made specially for them, under the Oriel label, by a group of the best winemakers in the world, who have made wines from Château D'Yquem to Penfold's Grange. Oriel is not a winery; it is not an importer or a broker. Oriel is not tied to one wine region, and Oriel does not follow any business model we've ever seen in the wine business. The Oriel team travels to the very best wine regions in the world, taps ONE of the very best winemakers in the region, and tasks that winemaker with making ONE wine that best expresses both the region and the winemaker's talent. Basically Oriel goes to a wine region, hands the winemaker an empty canvas, and says, "Give us your best work of art." The thing that makes it so great, that makes it work, is that unlike so many importers, Oriel isn't trying to be all things to all people. By focusing on one wine per region and putting their trust in the hands of the winemaker, they are creating simple brilliance and focus in a bottle of wine. From top to bottom, the range of Oriel wines is both great and impressive. Oriel includes a vast array of everything from light, fruity German Rieslings and Albarino's up to rich, elegant estate Barolos, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and Napa Valley Cabernet.

To refresh your palate, in Baton Rouge on Wednesday March 14th, Jon from Cork & Bottle along with Kelly from Oriel will host a FREE tasting of the Oriel wines at The Wine Loft, located downtown at 304 Laurel Street, from 5:30 to 7:30.

On Friday March 16 in our New Orleans store, Kelly will be there for a free tasting of a wide variety of wines from the Oriel line-up. Following that tasting, Jon and Kelly are hosting a wine dinner at Ralph’s on the Park featuring some of the rare and reserve wines from the Oriel portfolio. Chef Gus Martin at Ralph’s is currently putting the finishing touches on a great menu to pair with the wines! (NOTE: as of March 1, only 6 spots remain for this dinner. Don't wait if you want a place!)

Both tastings are free. The dinner is $70 per head for four courses and 6 wines (including the one-two knockout punch of Oriel's “Altezza” Brunello di Montalcino and “Etero” Barolo--both wines priced at $75). We are limiting the dinner to 40 people, so be sure to sign up early! For more information about these exciting events and wines, please call Cork & Bottle at (225)344-1414 or (504)281-4384.
